Emily Hagins’ third feature (all made before she graduated high school) is her best so far, a teen comedy set at a science-fiction convention where it’s difficult to tell the real vampires from the conventioneers in costume. No, these vampires don’t sparkle.

Screen Writing Contest Update

The press release for our screen writing contest is going to be issued later this week. Due to circumstances, namely the aftermath of Irene and beginning class yesterday, I am running several days behind schedule. My apologies for the inconvenience. Please email anthologycontest @ gmail.com for info, to send your script in early, or to get on the mailing list.

If you choose to send in your script now but later change your mind about your submission, that is perfectly acceptable. I do not want anyone to worry about theft of any sort or even having a change of heart before any contracts are signed. Also, because I write often for college courses, I understand that great ideas and inspiration can strike after work has been turned in, so any need to update and re-send the script before the contest is over is acceptable. I want this to be a fun and creative experiment for everyone involved, so do not feel pressured or limited by rules as they are merely guidelines.

That being said, I have already received scripts, some being thinly veiled pornography, which of course I laughed at hysterically. Do not waste my time by sending in your creepy, retarded, fetish sex fantasy movie ideas. I was not born yesterday and despite the fact that you think you are a genius manipulator, master of disguise, and Spielberg of Spunk, you are essentially a pathetic buffoon. Do you actually think I want to spend my time, effort, and money to create smut specifically for YOU to whack off to? If so, you are a completely delusional goon who lives in a fantasy world, which consequently is the only world in which you will ever score. I would humiliate you further, but since you are such a dolt you would probably think I was flirting with you and use that as a means to jerk off. Crawl back under your rock, you flunkey failure, and do not bother me, or anyone else, with your unwanted advances. There are plenty of people out there willing to whore themselves and their bodies for a quick buck, but I am not one of them.

Here are the general details for the contest-

We are currently accepting submissions of short scripts, approximately 15-30 pages/minutes, for an anthology. Story must center on a female lead to be portrayed by Bianca Barnett. Scripts should be of horror, science-fiction, thriller, exploitation, or similar genres. Creativity is strongly encouraged and please do not feel limited by your perception of Ms. Barnett as a person or as an actress. She possesses chameleon-like range in delivery and performance while often physically transforming herself for each character as needed.

Full press release with details will be forthcoming. Please email anthologycontest @ gmail.com for more info. Thank you and we look forward to reading all of your work!

In case you forgot…

I am a winner! *wink, wink*

I hope you will make the B Movie Celebration ceremony this September. Check out my events and appearances page for more info. See ya there!

(i stay away)

For the past few days, I have been mulling over a superfluous squabble with my husband. You might have noticed that he tends to delight in speaking of his ongoing disgust with losers, poseurs, “hipsters”, social networking whores, most men, and ultimate dumb fucks (face it, most people are morons.)

Initially, his attitude really struck a nerve which caused me to bicker due to irritation. Why was I so rattled by his blatant and unapologetic berserker rage with people (other than me because naturally, I rule, and he treats me as a goddess)? Was it because I shared his dissatisfaction with the monotony of life in general? The building resentment that I have a disease which comes with a parting gift of social stigma? Partially; but it dawned on me that the reality is that I am fucking envious of his freedom to say any and all the shit he wants to say with no fear of repercussions. There is a thrill in inviting provocation. In my heart (oh, I have one-somewhere- generally found on my sleeve), I totally commend and agree with his overt surge of testosterone and frustration. There are days that I want nothing more than to jab, stab, and bash away along with him. Instead I have to suppress, smile, let things slide, tip toe, and be the epitome of polite political correctness.

At one time, I had a “nasty” habit of speaking my mind, which was often fueled by my own arrogance, inflated self-importance, and a few mind-altering chemicals. Trust me, I had a fair share of people who did not, and still do not, like me because of my attitude. It was exciting and liberating, though. Somewhere along my path that side of me has gone into retreat. She surrendered. Crumbled like ash. Sometimes I really miss that bitch.

Everyone sucks. People are sheep, which is so insulting to Ovis aries. The world is ruled by corporate greed. Despite everything revolving around you, you are ultimately insignificant. In the eyes of the universe, a trillion of you fit on a speck. Humans have allowed themselves to be brainwashed. Hurry now! Make unnecessary purchases to fill that aching, gaping hole in your soul. I bought six pairs of jeans yesterday. It did not eradicate the fact that I will rot.

There will come a day when I will take back the power of not giving a fuck about what anyone thinks of me. My choices, my moods, my personae, my circumference, the arrangement of shapes, lines and holes on my face, my actions, my reactions, my obsessions, my words, my indifference, my pain, my trauma, my chaos. Mine and mine alone.

I will lap up the vile verbiage they spew and bash their faces in with my bare fists just to feel hot blood on my knuckles. That is a high no drug can deliver. Only my pleonasm comes a close second.

Why you act crazy?
Not an act maybe.
So close a lady
Shifty eyes, shady
Tears that soak a callous heart
Why you act frightened?
I am enlightened
Your weakness builds me
So someday you’ll see

I am burnt out.

I’ve had a long week prepping for school (my husband is going back as a grad student as well), a film fest, two conventions, a charity event, screen writing contest, interviews, sorting photos, updating the site, filling merchandise orders, responding to emails, and trying to be social for my birthday. No “partying” mind you as I don’t want to partake in drink or drugs anymore. In fact, I spend most free time working out and focusing on my health, which will include dentist and physician visits and outpatient therapy. Years of habitual cyclical self-destruction must be untaught and I have to be rebuilt from the inside out.

Anyway, I am sleepy, please forgive the rambling. My inbox is flooded with birthday greetings, which is so amazing, but after nearly a thousand between my email/fb accounts, it’s difficult to manage my business email… and my life. I don’t sleep much often and I don’t know if it is stress related or I have burned myself out. I have an urgency in my being that I cannot explain in words. It is just gnawing at me as if I am losing my grip on reality and running out of time. Or maybe I am just really fucking tired. :)

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all the well-wishes and support. And to the guy that recognized me at the mall today to which my response was, “Wha…huh??”, I will now act cool and collected enough to throw the horns. I’m still not used to being known. Keeping my private/daily life safe and untouched is becoming more difficult. Boy, is it ever exhilarating and… terrifying.

New Panels from GINGER-STEIN: Rise of the Undead #4

Fresh from artist and creator of GINGER-STEIN: Rise of the Undead, Dennis Willman.

GINGER-STEIN: RISE of the UNDEAD #4, panel work. Graphite and digital painting in photoshop 5.5. 2011. Commissioner Taylor, the District Attourney, Agent Parker and Agent Connors in a conference about their multiple homicide suspect, Ginger-Stein. The expressions came off really well here, in particular the commissioner annoyance with the FBI agents and the D.A.'s doubt about Ginger's story. At this point in the story, Agent Connors is beginning to wonder if Ginger is telling the truth (even after being attacked by her, hence the bandage on her forehead and the cut on her cheek). In the middle, trying to keep his investigation together, is Agent Parker.

21 Questions: Bianca Barnett

Just in time for my birthday, here is a quick 21 question interview I did with Two Thumbs Eight Fingers- click here to read! Thank you so much for the opportunity.

I also want to thank you for all the birthday greetings via email, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and texts. I am in the thousands (birthday wishes, not years old!) and I cannot believe how kind you all are but it is difficult to keep up. (What a lovely dilemma to have!) If I don’t respond personally, please know I read and loved every single message. I feel so fortunate to feel an outpouring of love from people all over the world. For many years, I struggled with whether or not life was worth living, and now I cannot keep count of all my blessings. I hope my personal story inspires those who feel lost. Life is cyclical and many things are so precious, it is easy to get lose track of that in our daily grind. This might be my only life, so I promise to give it my all and the very best I can. I hope you’ll all do the same.

All my love,

BB

Fangoria talks about The Toy Box

Here’s a movie I worked on last year in Texas. Boy, was my life different then! I was living in Los Angeles on the last legs of a doomed relationship. Now, I’m living on the east coast, ten pounds lighter, really close to my family again, and married to the man of my dreams! It is funny how life can change so quickly. Anyway, enjoy this flashback and keep your eyes peeled for The Toy Box which comes out soon.

7am On a Tuesday in August

Some see your passing as a somber cliche, a morose martyrdom, or a reason to give up the ghost, but I choose to view it as motivation to carry on. It would be a disgrace to you and all the others who lost their battle to allow myself to be devoured. You voiced and embodied the unbearable pain, anger, sadness, shame, and desolation that I was unable to muster. Your words brilliantly and brutally summed up a battle that millions fight daily. You comforted without asking for anything in return. I wish I had been able to thank you in person and let you know what an inspiration you have been. Thank you for your gift to the world though you paid dearly for it.

May your soul be unchained and may you rest in peace, my friend.

On a personal note, I have made no secret about my own struggles with addiction. I have been addicted to drugs and alcohol for almost fifteen years now. I am proud to be clean and sober these days, but god damn, it has been the most harrowing ordeal I have ever experienced in my life. And regardless of all of the hard work I put into my health, I have to continue to say “addicted” despite not being an active user because they have yet to find a cure for this ghastly disease. So, until then, I am blessed with the stigma of being labeled an addict for eternity. My intellect, my talent, my heart, my accomplishments, my life, my very soul- they all come second to that wretched title and the uncertainty that follows.

Bianca on The Bradshaw Chronicles

Listen to Bianca on the Bradshaw Chronicles with Christy Bradshaw!

She was so sweet to create this banner to promote my site! Thank you so much, Christy! You can visit her site and listen to her show at http://worldtv.com/thebradshawchronicles/. I am on a few times, so I hope you listen to those!

Temporary Photo Gallery

Until I decide how I want my photos organized on the site, I am storing them on Flckr. Check out the link here or go to “Photos” in the menu above. As you will see, I am in the process of organizing them because I have so many. Thanks for understanding and for your patience! I just need to get this done before autumn begins as I will be slammed with school, two films, a charity I will be working with, and conventions. I am also blocking out days to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful change of season here in the mid-Atlantic region. Don’t forget that Albino Farm is playing all month in September on Showtime Beyond. Click here for that schedule! :)

TEMPTATION by Javier Trujillo for Spain's Sci World Magazine

Photo Galleries

Initially, I wanted to create a gallery using Coppermine, but it seems too time and labor intensive at the moment. I do dream of having an organized set of my photos through the years. Perhaps I can hire someone to help me out one day soon, but for now I am sorting through the massive amount of pictures on my hard drive so I can put together a portfolio before school starts. I am a goal oriented person, so I plan to have some galleries up by the end of the week. Wish me luck and thank you for your patience!

Hobbies

I am amused that my husband told me I need a hobby outside of my acting career. I gleefully interjected, “I have one– school (science)!” To which he replied, “That doesn’t count”.

Okay, fine, so I enjoy things outside of acting and science. I am a nature fanatic, particularly the flora and fauna of forests, both deciduous and coniferous. So, as autumn approaches I have planned out hiking, camping, and farm adventures on days that I am not working on films or school. I might even blog about these adventures. See, I can not be a Virgo for a moment!

Here are some pics we took of each other in DC while my family was visiting us.

More pics from our wedding…

Sorry to throw this together but I have been swamped lately. Hope you enjoy some more photos from our wedding. They were taken and edited by my new sister, Melissa Parker. My necklace was hand crafted for me by my sister, Daedra, from her Trend Fusion steampunk jewelry designs.

I have several radio interviews for both radio and blogs coming up soon. This fall I have a cool charity event that I am going to be involved with, a feature film, more Ginger-Stein work, the B Movie Celebration, and some horror conventions. All of that combined with full-time school and planning our move to Savannah will have me swamped. No rest for the wicked!

Wedding dress by Winter Kate. My sister made the necklace from her Trend Fusion line. Bouquet was designed by me with help from my mom and sister.

Our cake which the bakers almost got right!

Hitched!

Michael and I tied the knot in a beautiful, private ceremony held in Winchester, Virginia on August 5, 2011! Thank you all in advance for the congratulations and well-wishes.

I will post more photos later this week. Have a wonderful Sunday!

Married in Virginia by the lovely Mrs. Grimm. We were both crying!

New Interview- Horrorpilot

Click here for a new interview I did for Horrorpilot.com. Hope you enjoy! We are getting married this Friday, so life has been busy the past few days. I will post photos and blog when I have a spare moment. Hope you are enjoying your summer!
